End-to-end encryption affects Facebook Messenger calls

The social media giant announced the addition of end-to-end encryption for audio and video calls made on Facebook Messenger… End-to-end call encryption doesn’t mean anyone, not even Facebook or one hacker, you will be able to hear the call. This can only be heard by the people participating in the conversation. Many other messaging apps have already implemented this system, including WhatsApp, Signal, Zoom, or FaceTime / iMessage.

Facebook says end-to-end encryption is “becoming the industry standard.” The social network takes the opportunity to point out that in the past year its users made over 150 million video calls per day via Messenger. It is true that various constraints have led users to adapt to new realities.

In addition, Facebook is announcing the introduction of new settings for ephemeral messages in encrypted chats. If you want the message to disappear, you have additional options for when it expires, from five seconds to 24 hours. The previous options were: one minute, 15 minutes, one hour, four hours, and 24 hours.
The new features will be tested in the coming weeks as some users gain access to end-to-end encryption for group conversations (messages and calls) in Messenger. There will also be settings so that this or that person does not talk to you.

End-to-end encryption will also appear on Instagram

Finally, the Instagram test will provide end-to-end encryption of private messages. This will be available for adult users in some countries. They will need to activate an option that is not yet available by default.
