Low-cost airline easyJet has announced the cancellation of hundreds of flights starting this Saturday the 28th due to an IT problem and airport delays caused by staffing shortages amid high demand in the first summer with less restrictive measures since the start of the pandemic. The measure to interrupt part of the trips takes place during the holidays in Europe, the high season in the region.

according to InvestmentThe British airline has faced a number of challenges as the lifting of restrictions due to COVID-19 led to a rapid resumption of travel, it has struggled to recruit enough ground staff at many UK airports but has still faced internal IT issues.

The company said in a statement that it will be canceling about 24 flights a day from London Gatwick Airport between May 28 and June 6, but it already had to deal with about 200 flight cancellations last Thursday due to IT issues.

Recently the company removed six seats from some A319 aircraftin order to reduce the number of crew needed for these models and partially address the shortage of contract personnel.

“We very much regret the late notice of the cancellation of some of these flights and the inconvenience caused to customers who booked these flights, but we believe it is necessary to provide reliable service during this busy time,” the company said in a statement. “Customers are informed and have the option to rebook their flight or receive a refund, and can also apply for compensation in accordance with the rules.”
