Lora King, daughter of Rodney King, whose brutal beatings by white police sparked the Los Angeles riots 20 years ago, spoke on Wednesday about her father’s case and George Floyd’s death.

When asked if he felt we would see justice for Floyd’s death, he said, “I don’t want to be negative, but I don’t.”

“I still don’t feel like the officers involved in my father’s beating – I don’t think we get justice for them,” he said. “None of them received long term sentences … One of them was employed, by the Santa Monica department or Culver City department. Which was very sad for me. Because it meant he got his job back, which means someone else is now suffering because I’m sure he didn’t study because I’m sure he didn’t get a long term sentence. “

Some contexts: In 1991, Rodney King was severely beaten by LAPD officers after a high-speed chase through Los Angeles County.

The beating video, taken by a witness, shows that the King was attacked by a police baton more than 50 times. More than 20 officers were present at the scene, mostly from LAPD. King suffered 11 broken bones and other injuries due to the beating.

Four police officers were charged, but released – and black Los Angeles exploded in anger. The following riots caused more than 50 deaths and property damage worth $ 1 billion.

Lora on the death of George Floyd: Lora King was about the same age as George Floyd’s daughter during the beatings and riots.

King said what happened to his father was “something I live every day. And it’s something (unfortunately, George Floyd’s daughter) will live with every day. I don’t expect that to anyone.”

“You know, that night, my father was beaten. I lost a part of him but I did not lose him, fortunately, by God’s grace … so far that night, I had to hug my father after Although he was never the same. He would never get the chance And, for me, that’s – it’s sickening, “he said.
