Doom and Doom II Receive Official Widescreen Support 27 Years Later

Doom is a game that just won’t die, no matter how many times you slay those demons – and the owner of Bethesda saw fit to give the 27-year-old original a whole host of updates this year. After adding 60fps support and community add-ons in Januaryreprinted Doom and Doom ii received official support for the 16: 9 widescreen format.

In accordance with Bethesda blog post (through Polygon) the company actually changed the original Doom renderer to natively provide 16: 9 without mailboxes, giving you a wider field of view in the original game instead of big ugly borders or simply stretching the existing image.

The lack of a mailbox should be especially handy for owners of the Nintendo Switch, iPhone and Android versions of the game, as those big boundaries will no longer bump into their already tiny screens – and on Android games (Doom, Doom ii) now also supports 90Hz and 120Hz devices.

That’s not all: the engine now supports DeHackEd mods, gyroscope on Nintendo Switch and PS4 (or with DualShock 4 on PC), controller support on iOS and new touch controls, 120Hz mode on iOS (presumably iPad Pro only). ), an adjustable PC FPS limiter, and much more

It seems like Bethesda is gaining trust with these Doom re-releases after initially releasing them with especially the weird part of DRM what is it fast decided to delete
