As Americans found several beaches closed and Fourth of July fireworks rarely occur, authorities fear that the weekend break will worsen the damaging coronavirus pandemic.

More than two months after the first peak affected only a few states, the virus has fallen again in the South and Southwest.

The US reported Friday at least 51,842 new cases, marking the third consecutive day with daily highs of more than 50,000 cases, according to data from Johns Hopkins University.

Those who do not give up celebrating American independence outside the home find that the beaches in Miami and Los Angeles have been closed, pipes on the Texas river have been banned and city-sponsored celebrations will be broadcast live.

California, Arizona, Texas and Florida all posted new case notes this week. Florida reported nearly 9,500 additional cases of corona virus on Friday, with Texas adding 7,555 after back-to-back days with around 8,000 a piece.

Florida on average has more new cases per day – 7,870 – than any other state, according to an analysis of CNN data from Johns Hopkins University. California and Texas are behind.

The US now has a total of 2,793,435 cases of corona virus, as well as 129,434 related deaths.
