Following the wedding of Princess Diana and Prince Charles in 1981, a piece of cake from the ceremony was sold at auction this Wednesday. The buyer paid £ 1,850, about € 2,185, for the piece, which had been kept for 40 years.

The piece of cake was in the possession of Moira Smith, one of Queen Elizabeth II’s mother’s servants at the time, and according to Dominic Winter’s auction house, it belongs to one of 23 official wedding cakes that featured royal decorations. the print is made in sugar. (See photo gallery)

The slice survived on film paper, and in 2008 the Smith family sold it to a private collector who put it up for auction this year.

The cake was bought by Jerry Leighton in Leeds, who will add it to his will along with his property to donate to charity after his death.

However, the auction house warns that tasting this cake, which has received bids from people around the world, might not be a good idea.

Recall that Prince Charles and Diana were married on July 29, 1981 at St. Paul’s Cathedral in London. The couple broke up 11 years later, in 1992, and the divorce was formalized in 1996. Diana died a year later, in 1997.
