Athletics: Nigerian qualified for 100m socks suspended for doping.
Nigerian Blessing Okagbare, who qualified in the 100m semi-finals, was suspended from doping with immediate consequences, the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) said.
An anti-doping control held on July 19 at the Blessing Okagbar was indicted for using growth hormone and the Nigerian woman was immediately suspended pending a final resolution of the case.
The lab that analyzed the sample notified the AIU of the adverse result and the sprinter was officially notified this morning of her temporary sanction preventing her from competing in the 100m semi-finals, in which she qualified with a time of 11.05 seconds.
“The Nigerian sports system has flaws and we athletes are collateral victims,” laments Okagbare, who is part of a very high-level group based in Florida and trained by American Rana Rader, on Twitter.
Silver medalist at the 2008 Beijing Olympics in long jump, 32-year-old Blessing Okagbare, who posted the seventh best season of the year in the 100 meters (10.89 seconds) race, became the first athlete to be recognized as successful during this period. Tokyo Olympic Games 2020.
