Covid-19: Portugal is 6th country in the European Union with newest daily infections – News

According to the statistics website Our World in Data, the number of new cases per million inhabitants per day increased in the country last week from 768 to 2030.

The mortality rate for infections is 1.33 percent, with an average of 1.63 new deaths every day over the past seven days.

Denmark remains the EU country with the highest average number of new cases, especially affected by a new variant of the Omicron virus responsible for covid-19, which has grown from 2,090 to 3,590 new cases per day per million population.

It is followed by Cyprus with 3,500 new cases daily, Ireland (3,050), France (2,400) and Malta (2,210).

The EU average of new cases per million population currently stands at 1,170 new cases, well above the world average of 184 new cases.

Among the countries of the world with more than one million inhabitants, Denmark is repeated as the country with the highest number of cases in the past seven days, followed by Ireland, the United Kingdom (2820), France and Switzerland (1010).

In terms of daily deaths per million inhabitants, some of the European Union countries with the highest number of new cases, on the other hand, are among those where covid-19 caused fewer deaths, such as Ireland, where the number of new daily deaths is 0.63, as in Sweden.

Malta with 1.11 new deaths per day, Spain (1.18), Finland (1.47) and Cyprus (1.75) are the other countries with the best performance on this indicator.

In the European Union, the European average is 3.81 and the worst performing at the European level is mainly located in the east: Hungary (13), Poland (12.34), Croatia (9.94), Bulgaria (9.38) and Slovakia (7.93).

Globally, there were 0.78 new COVID-19-related deaths per million inhabitants per day.

Moldova is the country with the highest average daily mortality rate from the COVID-19 virus (24), followed by Trinidad and Tobago (14.86), Georgia (14.11) and Hungary (13).

According to the latest report from Agence France-Presse, Covid-19 has caused 5,441,446 worldwide deaths since the start of the pandemic.

In Portugal, 19,000 people have died since March 2020 and 1,434,570 infections have been reported, according to today’s General Directorate of Health data.
