Journalistic coverage of Sarah Carreira’s funeral and funeral last December was criticized by many Portuguese on social media.

The December 9th cover of Correio da Manhã, which showed Tony Carreira’s face at the entrance to the commemoration, was the subject of harsh criticism: “There should have been my father’s face on the CM cover, to be honest, everything goes” or “Somewhere that respect that was asked for! What do you need? Is it necessary to show the face of a deeply suffering father ???? It’s not worth everything! There is respect !!! “, these are just a few examples.

The aforementioned cover was the subject of complaints from the Social Communications Regulatory Authority, which commented on the case on June 30. IN deliberation ERC states: “1 – The publication of a photograph of the face of Tony Carreira, the victim’s father, during funeral ceremonies is not supported by the criteria of public interest and does not correspond to the responsibility to protect people in situations of psychological vulnerability and emotional, which makes it impossible for the victim’s family to quietly experience the context of pain and suffering. “

“two. This editorial ability does not demonstrate an increase in informative value, in contrast to the professional responsibilities set out in subparagraph a) of paragraph 1 of article 14 of the Statute of the Journalist”;you can still read it.

“3. Consequently, Correio da Magna may have questioned the right to maintain privacy, which is why CM urges respect the rights and obligations in question “– concluded the regulatory authorities.

It should be recalled that during this time, the Carreira family intensified their requests for respect and confidentiality on several occasions. Shortly before the commemoration began, the family circulated a new statement asking, inter alia, the media: “That they understand and respect our decision to spend our farewell to our Sarah with the intimacy and restraint that we need, thus without being the ceremonies open to the public that we so respect and have shown us so much affection.”, opened the family.
