Austrian Chancellor Alexander Schallenberg said today that confinement of unvaccinated people in Austria is “a difficult measure”, but “it is already bearing fruit”, meaning “massive increase in registrations at vaccination centers.”

“It is no coincidence that we partially imprisoned part of the population, but this measure is already in effect,” the Chancellor congratulated, who made this unprecedented decision in the European Union (EU) in connection with the aggravation of the Covid pandemic. -19 in the country.

Austria has seen an increase in the number of new cases, the number of which has reached its highest level since the start of the pandemic – an average of 12,000 a day in a country of 8.9 million people.

“The only chance to get out of this vicious circle is to increase the vaccination rate,” which is “shamefully low” (currently 65%), the chancellor insisted.

“I want to vaccinate the unvaccinated, not block vaccinations at home,” he added, denying accusations of discrimination or violation of the basic rights of unvaccinated citizens.

Schallenberg said that in this central European country, almost half a million people received a dose of the vaccine last week, 128,813 of which were the first dose, suggesting restrictions.

“I cannot imagine that two-thirds of the population is ready to give up their freedoms and agree to a conclusion in solidarity with the third, who has not yet been vaccinated,” stressed the Austrian executive director.

Also when asked about the vaccination of children between the ages of five and 11, already introduced by the City of Vienna, the Chancellor said that he expects the European Medicines Agency (EMA) to give the green light “in two weeks”, adding that “ if applicable, ”it will issue a“ call for vaccination of children ”.

Covid-19 has caused at least 5,098,386 deaths worldwide of the 253.17 million cases of new coronavirus infections since the start of the pandemic, according to the latest report from the news agency France-Presse, based on official figures.
