The ministry statement cited a telephone conversation between Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken.

According to the text, Wang stressed that China is “willing to communicate and engage in dialogue with the United States to foster a smooth approach to the Afghan issue, seeking to avoid another civil war or humanitarian catastrophe, and so that the country does not become a hotbed and safe haven of terrorism.”

Wang pointed out that Beijing will try to “encourage Afghans to create an open country in accordance with national conditions and an inclusive political structure.”

“The facts show once again that it is difficult to assert by imposing foreign models in countries with different history, culture and national conditions,” said Wang Yi.

This argument is often used by Chinese diplomacy to refute accusations of the totalitarian nature of the Chinese regime and violations of human rights in the country.

“The regime cannot exist without the support of the people,” the Chinese minister said, adding that “solving problems by force and military means only increases problems.”

“We must seriously think about this doctrine,” he stressed.

With regard to relations between the two countries, which have deteriorated since the presidency of Donald Trump (2017-2021), China believes that the right path is “to find a way of peaceful coexistence of the two great powers.”

The US State Department issued a brief statement in which it indicated that Blinken and Wang “spoke about developments in Afghanistan, including the security issue” and the efforts of both countries to ensure the safety of their citizens.
