Caixa Geral de Depósitos (CGD), BCP and Novo Banco filed a new € 26.9 million lawsuit today against business lady Isabel dos Santos, according to information available on the Citius portal.

According to the portal, today a claim for 26.9 million euros was filed with the Central Civil Court of Lisbon, filed by three banks, the defendants of which are Isabel dos Santos, Kento Holding Limited, based in Malta, and Unitel International. Holdings BV is headquartered in the Netherlands.

The two companies hold indirect holdings of Isabel dos Santos in Nos, which are in custody.

This process is joined by other lawsuits involving a bank and business woman involved in the Luanda Leaks scandal that resulted in the seizure or loss of shares in several national companies such as Efacec, which was nationalized.

In the process known today, the companies owned by Isabel dos Santos are involved in Zopt, a company that is a partnership between a business woman and Sone in Nos.

On March 18, Sonae executive president Claudia Azevedo said she “hopes” to “fix” Zopt’s divestiture and end its partnership with Angolan businesswoman Isabel dos Santos.

Lusa contacted the banks that took today’s action, with CGD and BCP saying they would not comment on the process pending a response from Novo Banco.

The process known today follows other business women appointed by the bank after the release of Luanda Leaks.

The International Consortium of Investigative Journalism (ICIJ) uncovered over 715,000 files in January 2020, titled Luanda Leaks, detailing the alleged financial schemes of Isabel dos Santos and her husband Cindica Dokolo, who have since died. They will allow the withdrawal of money from the state treasury of Angola through tax havens.

At the end of 2020, CGD, BCP and Novo Banco have already joined the process regarding Winterfell and Winterfell 2, which owns a business woman’s stake in Efacec, which has since been nationalized and is undergoing a reprivatization process.

There are also separate activities by CGD and another joint venture between BCP and Novo Banco, according to Expresso newspaper.
