Commentator Caio Ribeiro, featured on TV Globo’s “Encontro” today, said the political debate was “extrapolating a little” when considering the America’s Cup controversy in Brazil.

The statement of the former striker was made in connection with the manifesto of the athletes of the Brazilian national team, issued after the victory over Paraguay 2: 0. In the text, the players were unhappy with the tournament, but they did not refuse to participate in it.

“For me, [o manifesto] made it very clear that they do not want to participate in political debates and in the discussion, which today extrapolates a little and captures all conversational circles, – Cayo began to presenter Fatime Bernardes.

The commentator also felt that Tite’s team “positioned themselves against the Copa America” and that they showed “pride” by playing in the Brazilian jersey.

“It was important to be heard. According to the players, they were against it. [o torneio] due to the pandemic, and they chose not to play, even because of the vacation they hadn’t taken yet. It was quite clear that this decision was made by Conmebol and the President of the CBF and were not consulted. This caused the discontent of the athletes, and it would be important to listen to them. I think it’s great that they have confirmed their pride in wearing the Brazilian jersey, ”he concluded.
