The Association of Independent Meat Producers (AIMS), which unites slaughterhouses and meat processing plants, told the British The keeper who began contacts with the Ministry of Justice to explore this possibility.

A representative of this organization indicated that a small number of its members are already held in British prisons working on temporary leave, but stressed that “this number is very small.”

The Ministry of Justice, for its part, emphasized that “helping prisoners find work while serving their sentences and after their release significantly reduces the likelihood of their reoffending.”

“As far as possible, we will support all sectors with personnel problems,” the ministry representative emphasized.

After Brexit, which prevents new immigrants from the European Union from hiring without a work permit, several sectors have complained about labor shortages.

“Most of the food industry is facing a hiring crisis,” said AIMS spokesman Tony Goodger.

Goodger clarified that the Home Office told them that they “should prioritize the national labor market” while ensuring that there are not enough workers already residing in the UK to fill vacancies.

“While many of our employees take this issue very seriously, recruitment is still a problem,” he complained.

The British Poultry Council reported last week that one in seven jobs in the sector – about seven thousand – were left empty due to Brexit.

The UK unemployment rate stood at 4.7% in April / June, up from 4.8% in the previous quarter.
