Ricardo Delgado, President of Atlético, used social media to leave a message asking for support from the people of Alcantara as he prepared to return football to the national leagues.
“In 6 years, Atlético Clube de Portugal has recovered: it has emerged from a situation of insolvency of the club and SAD, the last division of the Lisbon district in adult football, a complete lack of direction in youth teams and in modalities, to launch a new paradigm. Today Atlético rebuilt the infrastructure, the senior football team, the senior football and basketball teams, all in national championships, competitive youth teams,” the manager wrote, pointing to the future:
“But the future consists not only of deeds and achievements; it is, first of all, the fruit of the work of the present. If the motto of the current governing bodies is the Union, we cannot help but note that this is also the moment to feel that Alcantara’s partners and manpower, companies, merchants and, why not, residents, are with the sport. And to be with Atlético at the decisive moment that we are going through requires extra effort: it is necessary to increase the number of paying members, increase the number of sponsors and sponsors of the Club.
And he concluded: “We are born of the people and we live among the people. This popular matrix has always come at a price: while others have grown on the benefits of power, Atlético have survived thanks to popular generosity. We know our history and do not deny it. On the contrary, we want to remain independent, free and growing, but this requires universal support! Together we are stronger!
