Sporting join Porto in the final of the Portuguese Cup, which will take place this Sunday at the Centro de Desportos e Congressos de Matosinhos. In the second semi-final of the Final Four, the club from Alvalade beat Benfica 33-30.

Seven goals at half-time (18-11) after a dominant first half, thanks to defensive play and goalkeeper Manuel Gaspar, enabled Sporting to counter Benfica’s strong run in the last 30 minutes. During this period, the red club balanced the derby and scored more goals than Sporting – 19 to 15.

However, the recent Europa League winner, more aggressively defending and better organized in attack after the break, lost players to two-minute suspensions and red cards – Alexis Borges, Jonas Kallman and Demis Grigoras, the latter two suspended for accumulating suspensions. and end up outnumbered in the last few minutes when trying to level the score.

Sporting’s brothers Martim and Francisco Costa were top scorers in the derby with 11 and 8 goals respectively, followed by seven goals from Ole Rahmel and six from Benfica’s Petar Djordjic.

The final is scheduled for 18:00 in Matosinhos. The trophy is held by Porto, while Sporting CP have not won since 2014.
