Lourenço Coelho will be the manager who will sit on Benfica’s bench during games. The Reds changed the structure of football and Rui Pedro Braz became full-time sporting director and Lourenço Coelho became general manager.
The new organizational chart, adopted in January and now in practical use, has led to a reorganization of tasks, and, for example, Lawrence Coelho will now be with the coach and substitutes from next season.
When he arrived at Clube da Luz, Rui Pedro Braz took over as CEO while Luis Filipe Vieira was president. However, after Vieira’s arrest and Rui Costa’s accession to the presidency, Braz merged the functions of general manager with that of sports director, a role that Rui Costa assumed.
The arrival of Lawrence Coelho in red football led to a rethinking of the structure. Thus, the latter becomes responsible for all the logistics of football at Benfica, starting with the marking of games, stages and day-to-day management of the team.
Rui Pedro Braz. in turn, will be the sports director. In this sense, the market responds, that is, the execution of transfers, purchases, sales or loans, decided together with President Rui Costa and the new coach Roger Schmidt, who, as we know, has not yet been introduced.
Braz also oversees scouting and is responsible for the link between youth and professional football.
