Statements by Rubén Amorim, head coach of Sporting CP, after beating Maritimo 5-0 in the League Cup, which sealed the presence of the lions in the quarter-finals of the competition. The coach talked about Paulinho (hat-trick scorer), Mateus Fernandez (starter debut) and Jovan Cabral.

Paulinho

“Paulinho has grown in the quality of his game. Of course, goals are superfluous, they give confidence to attackers, but he is in a good moment now and he must maintain this level throughout the year.

John

“Jovan didn’t leave because he didn’t play well, he played well, but he has a time limit and we have to take care of that.” And in the press center he added: “He has a growing position and understanding of the game, he is getting better. The talent is there, try to keep it healthy.”

Matthew Fernandez

“He had a great match, but it was hard for him at the end. The pace is completely different and we have to take that into account, but the quality is there.” And in the press center, he returned to the topic: His pass to the gate is the most unimportant. We all know he can do it. I want to see how he adapts to playing in space, in midfield with two. He has had physical, technical and tactical growth and I have to appreciate the work done with him in Filipe Celiccaya’s B team.”
