Vitoria de Guimarães goalkeeper Bruno Varela was interviewed by Canal 11 about the two penalties awarded against Porto at D. Afonso Henriquez” in the 29th round of the League on April 10, a game that the “Dragons” won 1-0, Taremi’s goal, from the 11-meter mark, in the 36th minute – the Iranian will not miss the second penalty, in the 63rd minute.

The 27-year-old, who spent a second consecutive season at Guimarães and spent most of his training at Benfica, thinks João Pinheiro’s bid was balanced.

“I always analyze games when I get home. Then, on the first day, I do an analysis with the goalkeeping coach. In this move (first penalty), we talked about it; I was not in the best position. I hoped that Taremi would not be able to control the ball, but he did. Then I still had time to return to the goal, in the end I didn’t return, I was halfway, and it was at the halfway point that I decided to leave the goal. The first thing I thought was that I would get to the ball first, but halfway through I regretted it. It was discussed a lot, but to be honest, if my team’s striker was fouled, it would be a penalty for me. I make a decision. He did his job, I should not have approached it like that, ”he admitted.

In the second half, the blue-and-white striker was again awarded a penalty, but missed.

“If it was a striker from my team, like Oscar Estupinan or Bruno Duarte, I would take the penalty. You shouldn’t be hypocrites. He was a “rat”, as they say. Taremi does it very well… I was frustrated myself, because I studied it and saw several similar moves in his performance. But in the game we make decisions. When he touched the ball, I was already raising my hands, because I knew that he would hit me on the knee. He was looking for contact, but I accept the punishment, ”he said.
