Astronauts get to China’s new space station for the first time
The three Chinese astronauts this Friday began making China’s new space station their home, the day after their arrival there, in a successful launch that marked a new step in the country’s ambitious space program.
The Shenzhou 12 spacecraft docked with the Chinese space station about six hours after taking off from the Jiuquan Launch Center on the outskirts of the Gobi Desert in northwestern China.
Approximately three hours later, Commander Nie Haisheng, and then Liu Boming and newcomer Tang Hongbo opened the hatches and entered the living module of Tianhe-1 Station.
Photos released by China show astronauts unpacking equipment and greeting people on Earth.
“This is the first time the Chinese have entered their own space station,” state broadcaster CCTV said on the evening news.
With Thursday’s launch, China increased the number of astronauts it launched into space to 14 from the first time in 2003, making it the third country to do so, after the former Soviet Union and the United States.
Although contacts between the Chinese space program and the US space agency NASA are limited by the US government, NASA administrator Bill Nelson on Thursday congratulated China on a successful launch.
“I look forward to future scientific discoveries,” he said in a post.
This is the third mission out of 11 planned for next year to connect Tianhe-1 with two laboratory modules, as well as send teams and materials.
The current crew will conduct scientific experiments, repair work, go into outer space and prepare the installation of two additional modules.
New crew and supplies will be dispatched in three months. At the time of the change of the brigade, each brigade will have three elements, of which six people can be accommodated at the station. According to the Chinese Space Agency, two of China’s former astronauts were women, and the future crew of the station will include women.
About half a dozen tweaks helped align the ship for docking with the Tianhe-1 or Heavenly Harmony module on Thursday.
Travel time has been cut from the two days required to reach China’s first experimental space stations, which is the result of “many achievements and innovations,” Deputy Mission Leader Gao Xu told state-run CCTV.
“Thus, astronauts will be able to have a good rest in space,” he said.
Other improvements include an increase in the number of automated and remotely controlled systems, which should “significantly reduce the workload on astronauts,” he added.
Macau Executive Director Ho Yat Sen congratulated the Chinese government on the successful launch of the Shenzhou 12 manned spacecraft and stressed that China’s space industry is “celebrating a new boom” and the construction of the space station is “opening a new era.” in China’s space program.
<< The Government of the Macau Special Administrative Region and the entire population will continue with all their efforts to support the development of the national manned space flight industry, making a due contribution to the prosperity and strengthening of the Motherland and to building a strong country in the aerospace field ... Once again, we hope that aerospace technologies of our country and our cosmonauts will get more fruitful results, ”he stressed in the message.
China is not participating in the International Space Station, largely due to US objections that indicate the opaque nature of the Chinese program and military ties.
However, the Asian country has stepped up cooperation with Russia and a number of other countries.
Chinese officials also said that foreigners could become part of future teams at the station following completion of installation next year.
China’s space program, which also includes exploration of the solar system using robotic spacecraft, has been a great source of national pride, showing the country’s rise from poverty to the world’s second largest economy in four decades.
Last month, the country landed a probe on Mars that brought the rover to various missions, mainly searching for frozen water that could serve as a sign of ancient life on the red planet.
China previously had a probe and rover that landed on the far side of the moon. China has also brought back the first moon samples from any country’s space program since the 1970s, and officials say they want to send Chinese astronauts to the moon and eventually build a research base there.

‘My power is really low’: NASA’s Mars Insight rover prepares to launch from the Red Planet
NASA Lander InSight He has delivered what may be his last message from Mars as he embarks on a historic mission to uncover the secrets of the Red Planet’s interior.
In November, the space agency warned that the probe could be running out of time as dust continued to condense and stifle InSight’s power.
“Spacecraft power generation continues to decline as windblown dust accumulates on solar panels,” NASA said in a statement. Update November 2. “The end is expected to come in the coming weeks.”
message shared NASA The InSight Twitter account tweeted on Monday: “My power is very low so this might be the last photo I can upload. Don’t worry about me: my time here has been productive and uneventful. If I can keep talking to my mission team, I will—but I will.” Subscribe here soon. Thank you for staying with me.”
A geologist robot armed with a hammer and a seismograph first reached the barren expanse of Elysium Planitia in November 2018.
Since then, she has carried out geological excavations, taking the first measurements of earthquakes with a high-tech seismometer placed right on the surface of Mars.
Last month, the solar-powered car released an update to remind us of its time in space.
“I was lucky to live on two planets. Four years ago I made it safely to the second one, much to the joy of my family at first. Thanks to my team for taking me on this journey of discovery. I hope I can be proud of you.”
According to the published mission, Insight has measured more than 1,300 seismic events since it was published, and more than 50 of them had signals clear enough for the team to extract information about their location on Mars. Results.
The probe’s data also provided detailed information about Mars’ interior, liquid core, surprisingly variable remnants beneath the surface of an extinct magnetic field, climate and seismic activity.
old for Its launch in 2018NASA Chief Scientist Jim Green said the mission was “fundamental to understanding the origins of our solar system and how it became what it is today.”
NASA will not declare the mission complete until Insight confirms the arrival of two spacecraft orbiting Mars that are relaying their information back to Earth.
In 2018, the veteran rover announced the capabilities end of his 15 year stay Sending an incomplete photo of the Valley of Perseverance.
A severe dust storm darkened the sky around the solar-powered rover, shattering the sun and leaving behind a dark image with white spots due to camera noise. The transmission is interrupted before the complete image can be transmitted.
