This Friday (8th) Apple appealed a federal judge’s verdict in the midst of a legal battle with Epic Games, the developer of the popular video game Fortnite, for over-controlling the App Store over content sold on the platform.

Apple has filed a petition with the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals for San Francisco to overturn the 185-page ruling of US District Court Judge Yvonne Gonzalez-Rogers.

While the judge ordered Apple to loosen its grip on payment options on the App Store, the judge ruled that Epic had failed to prove any antitrust violations.

Epic unveiled its own feature last month.

“We will continue to fight,” Tim Sweeney, CEO of Epic, tweeted when the company confirmed its plan to challenge the verdict.

Apple admitted days after the Gonzalez-Rogers decision that it was “very happy” with the decision, but left the door open to appeal.

The companies chose a trial in which a judge, not a jury, hears evidence and delivers a verdict.

Epic has filed a lawsuit to violate Apple’s control of the App Store, accusing the iPhone maker of a monopoly on its digital store.

The judge barred Apple from preventing developers from including “external links or other calls to action that encourage customers to buy gear” in their apps.

Apple may still require its payment systems to be used for in-app transactions.
