The UK Competition and Commerce Authority (CMA) has launched an investigation into the dominance of Apple and Google in mobile ecosystems, believing the two companies have a duopoly.

The CMA believes that Google and Apple could create a bottleneck in operating systems, stores and browsers on mobile devices, especially after it was revealed that in the UK, 97% of Internet browsing on a mobile device was done in the Google browser. or Apple.

Figuring out how the two companies seamlessly dominate the mobile space, and how Apple discourages cloud gaming on iOS devices, is high on the CMA agenda. There are more than 800,000 people playing games via the cloud in the UK, he said, but growth could be impacted by service distribution restrictions.

For example, Xbox Cloud Gaming is currently only available on iOS via browsers, while cloud gaming on Android devices is supported by the Xbox Game Pass app.

Ensuring that UK customers and app makers receive the best services and invest in innovative apps, respectively, is the will of the CMA.
