Cristina Oliveira was one of the special guests of the Gokuha program this Monday, June 20th. The 58-year-old actress opened her heart in a conversation with Manuel Luis Gusha and went public about her battle with depression.

Due to several years of functional depression due to divorce and most recently the death of her parents who left abruptly between 2018 and 2019, Christina has seen her mental health take a sharp turn for the worse due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

“During the pandemic, there was a gray fog in my head, what am I doing here? What for? Why so much struggle? Why so much resilience? What am I doing here?” she recalled, confessing that time at home and a lack of work left her devastated.

“Even when we didn’t have any pandemic, before, in our normal life, I often found myself out of work. I’ve even been out of work for two years and it’s terrible… it’s terrible because we question our worth even as people, not just as professionals. I’m worthless, I’m useless… because what I really know how to do is good or bad, and what I’ve been doing for 40 years, what?” he pointed out.

The lack of hope for the future made her experience dramatic moments. “It got to the point where I couldn’t get out of bed. My luck was my sisters and my daughters who pulled me out and made me go to the doctor“opened.

Cristina Oliveira is now recovering with the help of medical professionals. Continuing to take the medication recommended by her psychiatrist, the actress is preparing to begin therapy with a psychologist soon.
