Novak Djokovic landed in Australia to compete in the Tennis Open, but the snowball formed after he announced that he was exempted from the right to participate for medical reasons, forced the government of Victoria to deny him entry on a visa. Obviously, the visa he was traveling on does not allow for medical benefits.

The tennis player landed at about 11 am in Lisbon (11 pm in Melbourne) from Dubai and was interrogated for several hours about the documents he presented. It remains to be seen what the federal government will do, but so far a request from the border service has been denied.

Jaala Pulford, Victoria’s Minister of Sports, said she would not support a visa to enter the country, despite the state being a partner in the Open. “The federal government has questioned whether we are going to support Novak Djokovic’s visa application. We will not do this. We have always said that visas are a matter for the government and that medical refusals are the responsibility of doctors, ”Pulford wrote.
