Benfica continue to try to reach an understanding that will allow them to strike a deal with Steven Nzonzi, 32, a French midfielder whose pass belongs to Roma. And yesterday important steps were taken in this direction during a meeting in Seixal with the player’s manager.

The agent reviewed the Eagles’ offer in detail, and, as A BOLA found out, the deal, although not closed, was close to completion.

This is the same day that the Reds learned that they had one less competitor in the race for the athlete: Rennes, where Nzonzi played last season (39 games), left the stage. According to L’Equipe, Rennes decided not to sign a final contract with the midfielder, whom Roma had rented for a season and a half without a purchase option. The French emblem, ranked sixth in the last league, was still looking into negotiating with the hyalorrossi. But in the meantime, he gave up.

As such, Benfica are one of the emblems most interested in having the 2018 France midfielder world champion. There are more candidates and ultimately it will be up to the player to decide where to pursue their career. An agent’s visit to Seixal can be a good sign in favor of the eagles. Benfica is trying to convince the athlete and is ready to make financial efforts to receive an average salary of about 3 million euros per year.
