Mozambique’s women’s basketball team was defeated Sunday night by an Angolan rival (61–70) in the second and final round of Group B of the Afrobasket competition held in Yaoundé, Cameroon.

Despite the defeat, the Mozambique national team fought well to win.

The fourth and final period was the most stressful, with Nasir Sale’s coaches doing better, recovering from a 15 point gap to nine and even questioning the winner of the match.

In the end, however, they paid dearly for the boring start to the game. The Angolans have benefited (and well) from this and have had the merit of always maintaining the advantage, winning in the first period (24-15), in the second (39-28) and in the third (53-39). …

However, the Mozambicans never threw a towel on the ground, and in the last 10 minutes they gave their best, gaining 22 points against 17 Angolans, which was not enough to avoid another setback.

In the first round, the Mozambique national team lost (67-50) to Nigeria.

With this defeat, Mozambique ends its participation in the group stage in third and last position and will be contested in the playoffs on Wednesday to advance to the quarterfinals.

The opponent will be the second in group A.
