Netflix has already made a cheaper ad-supported plan available in select countries.
Now the first reports are starting to appear and users are confused and complaining that they never know how much commercial space will exist, or if there will be any.
Inconsistent ad frequency in the new Netflix plan
Due to the loss of a significant number of subscribers, Netflix is implementing several strategies in order to restore the success it had previously. Among the new features is a cheaper ad-supported data plan.
This method is currently only available in certain countries and includes a monthly fee of $6.99 per month (about €7) to access the service, as well as some benefits. The content resolution is lower quality (720p), some content is not available and the user will have to watch ad spaces.
And now reports of the first experiments are beginning to appear, full of complaints and confusion. According to those who have tried the modality, the presence of ads is completely incompatible.
In some films, the commercial space appears at the very beginning, without interruptions, in other cases there are ads in the beginning and middle of the content, and in some cases there are no ads at all. Users are confused and complain about the lack of consistency in the service.
According to the Netflix presentation, a user should see an average of 4 to 5 minutes of ads per hour. But, apparently, what is happening is that it is impossible to even move forward due to lack of consistency.
Each ad is reportedly 15 to 30 seconds long, as advertised by the platform, and there is an option to pause the commercial space, but not skip it by skipping ahead.
At the moment this modality is not yet available in Portugal. But it is expected that over the next few months, Portuguese users will also be able to access this option, which, if all goes well, will already work more stable.
