[미디어펜=나광호 기자]Amid concerns about reduced play times due to the end of social distancing, Nexon is encouraging profitability by strengthening its portfolio.
According to Industry Day 23, Nexon Games’ expected sales in the third quarter of this year will reach 42 billion won, up 17 billion won from the previous quarter. Over the same period, operating income is expected to decrease from -6.8 billion won to 9.1 billion won.
Sales and operating income this year are estimated at 140 billion won and 22 billion won, respectively, and sales are expected to more than double from the previous year. Operating profit should also turn black.

The company also plans to introduce a new schedule at G-Star 2022, Korea’s biggest gaming event. Nexon plans to visit G-Star with 300 booths for the first time in four years and hold a pre-event on the 2nd of next month.
Nexon is hosting a global beta test of the new “First Descendant” on Steam, the video game software distribution network. It is a root shooter that combines third-person shooter and role-playing game.
A new PvP game, Warhaven, is also in global beta, and Nexon.com launched its service after Steam. Warhaven is a game in which 32 warriors fight in the medieval fantasy world of Cherus, where only legal weapons exist.
Civilization: Rain of Power, an MMOSLG simulation based on Sid Meier’s Civilization V, is also in pre-registration. This is a work that Nexon is developing with the American games Endrim and Firaxis, and you can choose from 14 civilizations, including Korea, Russia, Rome, Japan, China, Germany, France, and the United States. It also features diplomatic content and alliance-level PvP warfare.
Its subsidiary Embark Studio is also set to release a team-based FPS game, The Finals. Nexon explained that on platforms such as PC, PS5 and Xbox, battles against characters such as “ninjas” and “cowboys” can be fought on a virtual battlefield based on real-life landmarks. You can destroy an entire building or move between destroyed buildings.

It also aims to win the hearts of existing users and attract new users by constantly updating offerings, including “Hit 2”, a Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game (MMORPG).
In the case of Hit 2, new content is scheduled to be released as part of Episode 2 Reclaimed Glory on the 26th.
The NEXON TOWN global mobile virtual community platform also contains MapleStory themes. Unlike the current Nexon Town virtual space, the new spaces, including “Henesis”, were implemented side-scrolling in 2D to emphasize MapleStory’s sensibility, and an “Item Shop” was also introduced.
In addition, Nexon Town’s strategy is to develop it as a “hub” covering all Nexon games, such as improving connectivity to its games through incremental updates and offering an “integrated platform” related to items and assets.
An industry spokesman said: “This is a move to create new drivers of growth as cash cows including FIFA Online 4 and Dungeon & Fighter thrive at home and abroad. They seem to be drawing a bullish chart,” he said. .
