Mister. Are you ready to run for president of the republic?

Yes, I want to be a candidate who will help unify the center, not divide it. We need to be encouraged by the public so that when we arrive in June and July, before the conventions, the leading candidate (among the names of the third way) gets support. I intend to be a leader, but if not, we will have to have a social spirit to support the other. It is clear that the third path candidate will only win if he has a unique name. If it gets fragmented it becomes difficult. What worries me is that the voter has already chosen the one he does not want. Bolsonaro is heavily rejected, and half of Brazilians say they don’t want either Lulu or Bolsonaro. The voter does not yet know who he wants, but he knows who does not. The third way to get accustomed is a long way.

What will be the main difficulty of the third way?

The candidates for the third path lack a human story. Politics does not make sense for those who are in a difficult situation, for the unemployed, for those who have made deals. This is the despair of a country that has been mired in a recession for ten years, returned from poverty … You see tragic photographs of people picking up pieces of flesh, bones, politicians need to talk to these people. Political radicalism was paved with technocratic speech and weak affection for people. We have to find this tone in order to communicate with people. The third way will win the election if he does it.

Does the liberal agenda have non-populist responses to Brazil’s socio-economic crisis?

Disappointment and disillusionment with politics is a symbol of the collapse of populism. It was disappointing. We tried left and right populism, but people’s lives got worse. People want someone to build bridges, restore dialogue and trust in the country. Populism will not do this; it will only exacerbate discord. A liberal economic agenda has triumphed around the world. Even communist countries like China understood that capitalism was fundamental to economic growth. On the agenda is inclusion in world trade. The locomotive that pulls cars, including social ones, is the economy. If the liberal agenda is not discussed, it will be a way to deceive people. If the agenda of the locomotive is economic growth, income and employment, then the second car is political stability, an effective state and high-quality public services. It brings predictability and confidence. Otherwise, it is difficult to convince investors of the stability and reliability of the rules. We need to work to improve public service. How to show that administrative reform means improving civil servants? This connection has yet to be established in the narrative. The third is a carriage of social policy. They don’t exist without economic growth. The priority is the liberal agenda. If you ignore it, Brazil is lost.

What would this social policy look like?

Social policy is not a left-wing monopoly. It should be on the left, on the right. We spend 25% of GDP on social programs. If we take 1% and focus on the poorest, you double their income. We don’t do this because of patronage. The liberal social program must have a way out.

Why mr. Do you want to enter this political environment surrounded by mistrust?

The experiences of those in power today show that they have perpetuated the CCP: patrimonialism, corporatism, and clientelism. We are trapped … I am forced to strive for a huge maturation of civil society. A mobilized civil society favors incredible measures like pension reform, a clean record …

Is it possible to establish channels of dialogue between different strata of society?

This is what I want to do in the campaign. I want to listen to the Brazilian. You take people with different interests and you can have a dialogue. Dialogue means the ability to listen to people sincerely. Thus, we will direct the story along the third path. What the radicalized world lacks most is listening to the other. Piauí, owned by Governor Wellington Diaz of PT, has made tremendous efforts to improve the financial situation. Wonderful. Why am I not going to praise the PT Governor’s policy if it was done well?

Lula is ahead of Bolsonara in polls. Why not unite around him?

Lula has a huge refusal. Part of Brazil’s recovery is moral and ethical recovery. Lula suffers from this fundamental attribute in order to restore confidence in Brazil. Let’s remember during the campaign that Lula is the father of schemes that weakened institutions and opened the way for pocket money.
