A four-year-old child who has been missing for over two weeks in Western Australia has been found alive. The police detained the suspect.

On Wednesday, Deputy Commissioner Colonel Blanch reported the good news: “I am honored to report that Cleo Smith was rescued by Western Australian police early this morning.” After 18 years went missing, the four-year-old was found by a “well” in a locked house on the Carnarvon Coast, near where she was last seen while camping with her parents and sister at Quobba Blowholes. “My name is Cleo,” the child said, smiling at the agent who picked her up after she burst into one of the rooms in the room. And everything was good because everything worked out well.

Cleo, who has already received medical attention, was last seen early in the morning of October 16, at 13:30. The next morning, at 6 a.m., her mother could no longer find her in one of the two rooms of the family tent, where she slept with her younger sister, in a camp about a thousand kilometers north of Perth: the tent door was open, and daughter disappeared with her sleeping bag.

The child’s mother immediately said that the girl could not go out alone and that someone had taken her away. Since then, authorities have launched a mega-operation to find her, mobilizing a contingent of 100 police officers into the area to conduct air, land and sea searches. A million dollar reward was offered for the information leading to the location. “Our family is together again,” thanks Ellie Smith on Instagram after meeting her daughter again.

In the same message to the public, authorities said on Tuesday that they had detained a 36-year-old man in Carnarvon for questioning. The suspect, who has not yet been formally charged, is not related to the family.
