And recycled water, renewable energy, says the Portuguese government.

Environment Minister Duarte Cordeiro has pledged to radically increase Portugal’s renewable energy production, obtain more recycled water licenses and conduct a strategic environmental assessment of projects to enhance flow in the middle of the Tagus River.

Regarding the energy transition, Cordeiro said that Portugal is “more secure than most of its European partners because of its investments in renewable energy” but “not immune” to the current international instability.

The Environment Minister added that Portugal supports electricity prices in the current situation.

“Domestic consumers of electricity saw a 3.7% decrease in the end prices of the regulated market,” he said.

Regarding investments in solar energy, the minister said that by the end of this year, Portugal had already overcome the barrier of 2,000 MW and envisaged the commissioning of another 1,200 MW.

“In the current high cost situation, if all the solar power plants listed in the three auctions we promoted were in operation, Portuguese consumers could save more than 2.1 billion euros,” he said.

Also, according to Duarte Cordeiro, in 2023 a “large auction for the production of wind energy on floating offshore platforms” will be launched.

“This is a project that will revolutionize our renewable generation capacity. We want applications to add at least 10 gigawatts to our generation. The offshore wind auction will be the most ambitious renewable energy project in Portugal,” he stressed.

The minister added that more than 70 green hydrogen projects have been identified, resulting in investments of around 10 billion euros.

“With this mandate, we are very confident that we will start exporting green hydrogen,” he added.

In the first part of his speech, the minister warned against “the economical use of water in homes, fields and industries”, given the frequency of droughts.

“He should be kept in his sources. And your drink should be reused for secondary purposes,” he added.

By 2030, the government intends to “use 20% of the potential of national water bodies and spread the principle of reuse.”

Method Media Bermuda will present the documentary FABRIC: Portuguese History in Bermuda on Thursday, December 29 at the Underwater Research Institute of Bermuda.

A spokesperson said: “Method Media is proud to bring Bermuda Fabric: Portugal History to Bermuda for its 5th and 6th showing at the Bermuda Underwater Observatory. In November and December 2019, Cloth: A Portuguese Story in Bermuda had four sold-out screenings. Maestro de Braga is the first Portuguese in the National Symphony Orchestra of Cuba.

Maestro Filipe Cunha, Artistic Director of the Philharmonic Orchestra of Braga, has been invited to conduct the Cuban National Symphony Orchestra, as announced today.

According to a statement sent by O MINHO, “he will be the first Portuguese conductor to conduct this orchestra in its entire history.”

In addition to this orchestra, the maestro will also work with the Lyceo Mozarteum de la Habana Symphony Orchestra.

The concerts will take place on 4 and 12 March 2023 at the National Theater of Cuba in Havana.

In the words of the maestro, quoted in the statement, “these will be very beautiful concerts with difficult but very complex pieces” and therefore he feels “very motivated”.

From the very beginning, Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2 will be performed by an Italian pianist (Luigi Borzillo), whom the maestro wants to bring to Portugal later this year. In the same concert, Mendelshon’s First Symphony will be performed.

Then, at the second concert, in the company of the Mexican clarinetist Angel Zedillo, he will perform the Louis Sfora Concerto No. 2. In this concert, the maestro also conducts Tchaikovsky’s Fifth Symphony.

“This is an international recognition of my work. An invitation that I accept with humility and great responsibility. I was surprised to learn that I would be the first Portuguese member of the Cuban National Symphony Orchestra. This is a very great honor,” the maestro said in a statement.
