For the second year in a row, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the 2021 national exams contained several non-mandatory questions, and the tests essentially served to access higher education.

But last year there were fewer optional questions, and grades ended up dropping, with the exception of only two subjects: Portuguese and Descriptive Geometry.

In Portuguese, the average rose from 11.98 values in 2020 to 12.05 last year, representing a slight increase of 0.06 values on a scale of zero to twenty. In descriptive geometry, the growth was more dramatic: from 11.24 to 12.36.

In all other subjects, there was a drop in the average, especially in mathematics A, physics and chemistry A, geography A, and biology and geology.
