Palmela factory could break records this year

Every day, 890 vehicles roll off the Autoeuropa assembly line, heading to the markets of Europe and Asia. The Palmela plant was born out of a joint venture formed by Volkswagen and Ford to build a multi-brand plant in Portugal to produce the Sharan, Ford Galaxy and SEAT Alhambra. In July 1991, an investment contract was signed with the Portuguese state, which is the largest foreign investment in Portugal to date. However, four years later, in January 1999, the Volkswagen Group acquired over 100% of the share capital.

As of 2021, T-Roc holds 95% of the daily production schedule. Last year alone, the Palmela plant produced 210,754 vehicles, of which about 99.2% were destined for the international market – only 0.8% for the national market, which is 5% of national exports and 1.5% of gross domestic product ( GDP), with 5,124 employees. In this way, Autoeuropa has become an anchor for the growth of one of the largest national export clusters with the production / assembly of vehicles and the production of components.

Autoeuropa is on track for its second best year ever. Palmela plant management has improved its production forecasts for 2022, hoping to ease the semiconductor crisis that has affected the plant in the past 12 months. Factory workers, faced with this prospect, are already demanding wage compensation due to rising inflation. The new estimates point to production of around 230,000 units for all of 2022, according to a statement from the plant’s work commission. The new number is second only to the 2019 record, when 254,600 vehicles left the Volkswagen group’s Portugal division.

Gás. Vendedores de garrafas corrigem preços

Gas bottle sellers have adjusted prices that are not in line with government regulations limiting those values, said the National Energy Sector Organization (ENSE), which returned yesterday to review activity.

After conducting the first inspection on Tuesday, which found “high non-compliance” in 23.4% of outlets, the organization again carried out “108 inspection actions in Castelo Branco, Portalegre, Santarem, Evora and, in the municipalities of Cascais, Oeiras and Sintra in the Lisbon area, focusing on petrol stations, hypermarkets/supermarkets and other retail outlets.”

During this second check, ENSE found “seven violations (corresponding to 6.5% of the actions taken) in the selling prices (from 0.36 euros to 3.39 euros for T3 bottles and 6.92 euros for T5 bottles) of this type of product.” But he left a guarantee: “Of these actions, it was established mainly the correction of inappropriate prices, namely in relation to inflated amounts charged in several hypermarkets of the same brand.”

The maximum prices per bottle of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) set by the government came into effect on Tuesday, saving almost 3.2 euros on a 13 kilograms (kg) bottle of butane.
