Portuguese rock stories told in a book benefiting União Audiovisual – Showbiz

Portuguese rock stories told in a book benefiting União Audiovisual - Showbiz

“During the pandemic, when we were making baskets [de alimentos e outros produtos essenciais distribuídos pela UA] everyone was talking about touring stories, concerts, and we thought it was time to write a book,” Lusa said of the “old” idea, Ricardo Queluz, sound engineer and co-founder of UA.

The phrase “one day we have to write a book” has been repeated so many times over the years by those who work in music shows in moments of sharing stories that it really came true.

For “Pela Estrada Fora – Histórias do Rock Português”, the idea was to collect “stories telling about the work” of professionals in the sector in concerts, and the idea was to “keep everyone on”.

Thus, among the narrators of the 87 stories told in the book, there are musicians such as Manel Cruz, To Trips, Nuno Prata, Francisco Rebelo, Joao Cabrita, Susana Felix, Miguel Angelo, Luis Varatojo, Flac and Fred Ferreira, illuminators such as like Claudio Silva, Ricardo Gaiolas and Margarida Moreira, sound engineers like Joe Fossar, Helena Ramos and Susana Pereira, road managers like Francisco Morgado, Duarte Dionisio and Cabeca and agents like Celia Costa and Alain Vachier.

What these pros chose to share are “things that happened and have a certain joke” and through which “people perceive the way of life and what the shows were like because there’s a big difference from the 1990s to now” . “Now everything is much more professional,” says Ricardo Queluz.

The book will be presented on Monday at the São Jorge cinema in Lisbon at 18:00 in a screening featuring Tó Trips, João Cabrita, Margarida Moreira and Nuno Preto.

On this day, books will be sold, which will then be available in various places. In addition, anyone wishing to purchase On the Road – Stories of Portuguese Rock can contact UA at [email protected]

Proceeds are returned “in full” to UA, “which continues to help people.”

In April 2020, about a month after concert halls closed due to covid-19 and left thousands out of work, five friends began promoting food collections to help fellow professionals in a sector where labor informality quite common.

The informal group of five, formed in April 2020 in Lisbon, today is an association with more than 50 volunteers from the north to the south of the country.

There are several ways to help União Audiovisual. On the UA website ( there are all possible ways to donate, both through the delivery of food to collection points, and financial donations.

In addition, specific initiatives across the country where there is an opportunity to contribute are posted on UA’s social media accounts.

Maestro de Braga is the first Portuguese in the National Symphony Orchestra of Cuba.

Maestro de Braga is the first Portuguese in the National Symphony Orchestra of Cuba.

Maestro Filipe Cunha, Artistic Director of the Philharmonic Orchestra of Braga, has been invited to conduct the Cuban National Symphony Orchestra, as announced today.

According to a statement sent by O MINHO, “he will be the first Portuguese conductor to conduct this orchestra in its entire history.”

In addition to this orchestra, the maestro will also work with the Lyceo Mozarteum de la Habana Symphony Orchestra.

The concerts will take place on 4 and 12 March 2023 at the National Theater of Cuba in Havana.

In the words of the maestro, quoted in the statement, “these will be very beautiful concerts with difficult but very complex pieces” and therefore he feels “very motivated”.

From the very beginning, Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2 will be performed by an Italian pianist (Luigi Borzillo), whom the maestro wants to bring to Portugal later this year. In the same concert, Mendelshon’s First Symphony will be performed.

Then, at the second concert, in the company of the Mexican clarinetist Angel Zedillo, he will perform the Louis Sfora Concerto No. 2. In this concert, the maestro also conducts Tchaikovsky’s Fifth Symphony.

“This is an international recognition of my work. An invitation that I accept with humility and great responsibility. I was surprised to learn that I would be the first Portuguese member of the Cuban National Symphony Orchestra. This is a very great honor,” the maestro said in a statement.

“I take with me the name of the city of Braga and Portugal with all the responsibility that goes with it, and I hope to do a good job there, leaving a good image and putting on great concerts. These will be very special concerts because, in addition to performing pieces that I love, especially Rachmaninov and Tchaikovsky, I will be directing two wonderful soloists who are also my friends. It will be very beautiful,” concludes Filipe Cunha.
