2022 has just begun, and Microsoft Exchange is already in trouble

It was only a few hours before the new year of 2022, and there are already security issues in the world of technology that need to be reported. This time, the victim is the well-known Microsoft Exchange software, which has been down since early 2022.

From what has been very actively reported, this issue started way back in 2022 and is hampering the delivery of email messages. There is already a solution to this problem that is easy for administrators to apply.

Called Y2K22, this new bug affects all systems with the latest versions of Microsoft Exchange. Problem reported by many administrators This email system informs that messages sent from these servers simply stop being sent.

The flaw exists in the versions of Exchange 2013, 2016, and 2019, in particular in the anti-spam and anti-malware component that exists in this service. The name Y2K22 comes from a date conversion issue for which an update was received to resolve this issue.

Research done to determine the error reports that everything will be in one variable and its type. It is int32, which has a maximum value that is currently being exceeded. The solution would be to use a variable of type int long, which contains much larger values.

Of course, Microsoft will have to release an update very soon to fix this issue in Exchange, and it seems to be easy to fix. Everything will be in changing the specified variable, which can then finally convert the date to an accepted value without returning any error.

There is already a workaround for this Microsoft software issue. It includes disabling components that show errors, that is, anti-spam and malware protection. This process is done with a simple PowerShell command.

Unfortunately, applying this curative measure to Exchange exposes customers to attacks and potential security issues. This is a new problem that re-emerges due to the change of year, which happens periodically and almost every year.
