Almeirim fined for misconduct at sports venues

Concerned about the normalization of inappropriate behavior at sports venues, Mayor Pedro Ribeiro of Almeirim secured fines for these actions in order to “change the mindset” and promote the sport “as a school of virtue.”

This measure is the next step in the Parents of Athletes – Responsible Parents project, which over the past three years has aimed to sensitize sports associations and agents to modalities and levels of preparedness for the adoption and promotion of the values of urbanism in sports.

Now “one more step has been taken” and Santarem County has announced that it has met with GNR, so the law “which already exists” begins to apply in March, and disrespectful speech, incitement to violence or intolerance at sports venues is punished with a fine, which can range from 750 euros to 10 thousand euros “for everyone”.

Pedro Ribeiro refers to Law 39/2009, “which exists, but no one ever wanted to get too upset about this issue because, as a society, we have largely normalized these situations,” says the mayor, who is uncomfortable. taking their six-year-old son to sports venues where there is no language barrier, foul language and insults are common.

“In January and February we will keep people informed,” he said, adding that the law will later be applied to raise awareness for those outside the four lines, although work has been done with clubs and associations so there are also sports penalties in within the field in case of improper behavior.

The Mayor of Almeirima explained to Lusa that the judges have already received a sheet in which, in addition to the usual report, they must write down “things that are considered normal, but which should not be normal,” as municipal officials did. indications of lack of sportsmanship.

“On the field, judges must also show a great intolerance to certain actions and words,” he said.

The Mayor understands that many bad examples come from professional sports agents and can lead fans and other athletes to believe in the legitimacy of reproducing unwanted attitudes, which cannot be the case, as insults sometimes develop into “worse behavior”.

Pedro Ribeiro emphasized the importance of “changing habits”, using tapes on site by security forces as a deterrent and a way to get people to “think twice” about the words they say, and to warn other fans. be attentive and attract the attention of neighbors.

“Sport plays an important role in the development of children. We want to glorify sport and create the conditions for sport to be what it has always been: a school of virtue, where you also learn to cope with disappointment and lose, ”Mayor of Lusa told Almeirim agency.

For Pedro Ribeiro, competition cannot simply be a race for classifications that obliterates fundamental values.

“In sports, we need to teach sports, but also values, and one of the values is urbanism,” stressed the Mayor of Almeirima, for whom this measure should be implemented on a different scale.

Pedro Ribeiro was ready to convey to the federations “the steps taken and the difficulties encountered.”

In Almeirima, the autarchy rules “helped the clubs get more support in applying their internal rules” in a disciplinary way, said Pedro Ribeiro.

As there are more practitioners in the sport, less worthy situations come to light in football, and the President of the Portuguese Association of Football Referees (APAF) Luciano Gonçalves welcomes this initiative, which he wished was widespread.

“There are many laws in our country, but we do not abide by them, and I congratulate the Chamber of Almeirim for having the courage to do so,” said Luciano Gonçalves, who says he is not “utopian” and therefore believes that this measure will not affect professional football in any way.

The referee cites the example of court decisions based on the argument that certain behavior is normal in football, and since such normalization exists, “the idea that everything in football is tolerable does not ultimately punish itself.”

“I liked that there was no need to punish in this, it was a sign that we managed to create a sports culture, but everything has a beginning. I believe that, starting with the rank and file, it is normal in the future that this type of behavior will no longer exist, ”the APAF president predicted.

BALL – “We can’t be too happy with the result” (Futsal)

BALL - "We can't be too happy with the result" (Futsal)

At the end of the match with Ukraine, which recorded an impressive 6-0 triumph for the women’s team, in the last match of the preparation for Euro 2022, national team coach Luis Conceição praised the behavior of his athletes, however, leaving an important warning.

“It is always important to win, but more than talking about the result, it is important to emphasize how we scored goals. We had good moments of collective organization in more offensive conditions. We managed to score goals, we determined the schemes by how Ukraine behaved in defense. We also had very good moments in defense when we could press high, when we could condition and recover balls in the front line and score goals from there. We knew they would give us the initiative to play ball and build it. When they won the ball and left in transition, it was important to condition and everything went well. It was important to compete with a good team, but they are better than today. It is not easy after all this situation to get together, after some time to stop and start working again. We are happy, but now we can choose different contexts. We cannot be too happy with the result, ”the coach analyzed.

Regarding the fact that Ana Azevedo hit Quinas in the chest in a hundred games, Luis Conceição stated: “We have to congratulate Ana Azevedo. We are very happy with this brand because Ana deserves a lot. For who she is, for being a player and for what she has done for women’s futsal. We hope that he manages to make even more matches, it will be a sign that he is playing and will help us. The years go by, but we don’t find anyone running faster than her. As long as that’s the case, we think she’s in a position to stay here. Nobody beats you, so age doesn’t matter, but competence does. She’s fantastic.”

Portugal sued for ‘wrongful’ use of its image in FIFA games

Portugal sued for 'wrongful' use of its image in FIFA games

Portuguese football player Diogo Santos has filed a lawsuit against an American company that develops and distributes FIFA electronic games, demanding compensation for the “improper and offensive” use of his image.

In the lawsuit, which was filed in the Braga court and to which Lusa had access today, Diogo Santos seeks compensation of more than 53,900 plus interest for property and non-pecuniary damage.

It alleges that Electronic Arts Inc., based in California, United States of America, is using its name, likeness, and personal and professional characteristics in its video games titled FIFA 2019 and FIFA MANAGER 2010 without permission. , 2011 , 2012, 2013 and 2014

He also says that he “never gave anyone explicit or even tacit permission” to participate in these electronic games.

Currently Diogo Santos, now 37 years old, originally from Vila Franca de Xira, lives in Fao, Esposenda, played for Felgueiras last season.

He has already passed through Académico de Viseu, Santa Clara, Famalican, Oliveirense, Aroca and Gil Vicente, and also defended the colors of Brasov from Romania.

In action, Diogo Santos says he had access to news that Electronic Arts is paying “some players real fortunes, as in the case of Lionel Messi, who receives US$50 million for appearing in their games.”

“Author [Diogo Santos] does not intend to receive what is being paid to Lionel Messi, but such news proves that the amount requested, given the economic opportunities of the defendant [empresa] and the fact that she pays some players is very modest, ”the lawsuit says.

The action also emphasizes that the games have an annual release, which implies a payment of 6,000 euros for appearing in each game, “which is not even enough, because we are talking about a reward for the annual use of the image of a football player, a professional in the first division of Portugal.”

The lawsuit was filed with the court of Braga, which in September 2021 deemed itself “internationally incompetent” to evaluate and judge him.

The footballer appealed to the Court of Appeal, which upheld the decision of the first instance, and then to the High Court of Justice (HJC), which gave him grounds for continuing the process.

In a May 24 decision consulted by Lusa this Thursday, STJ states that “they have international competence to know the substance of a non-contractual civil liability claim for infringement of personal rights through content broadcast around the world, the courts of the country in which the center the interests of the victim is in the period when the damage caused by this offense arises.

“Portuguese courts have international jurisdiction to rule on a claim in which a professional football player who predominantly operated in Portugal seeks compensation for damages caused by the unauthorized use of his name and likeness in FIFA video games produced in the United States of America. and distributed all over the world, ”adds the Supreme.
