BALL - New life of old Restelo: "Ruben Amorim, let's get stuck!" (Belentsi)

Restelo is one of the mythical stages of Portuguese football. There were historical moments that will forever remain in the memory of many residents of Beleni. A few years ago (a few …) Belenenses-Sporting would have been just another exciting Portuguese football classic.

There will be much more today. Everything will be different. What’s left of the past? Symbol, memories, trophies and, above all, people. Those that in the past have created and exalted the mystery of the historic blue emblem. It is customary to say that lovers do not live for themselves, but for what they are passionate about. This is a good way to showcase the feelings of most fans, managers or former athletes who have never taken off the jersey that once stood next to the greatest.

In the minds of some fans, especially the less attentive, as soon as Sporting got lucky with Belenenses in the 3rd round of the Portuguese Cup, they immediately asked themselves: after all, who is this Belenenses? The BALL went in search of an answer. It was not easy even because the scars of the war that began with SAD in 2018 are still alive.

He divided the supporters, and internal conflicts arose. Was this an irreparable identity gap? Many do not believe. The famous Velhos do Restelo, an expression used to characterize the lack of new blood in the associative mass, has renewed its legacy, and playing with lions will be the first big duel in Restelo for many.

And it is this old man, now the new Belenenses, who will fight Sporting. An emblem that decided to follow an autonomous path, which was updated in AF Lisboa counties and severed all ties with the professional structure of SAD in 2018. Today there are only five professional players (Flavigno, Marcelo, Cle, Ze Pedro and Mauro), a squad with an average age of 22 years and a budget of 300 thousand euros.

Luis Ferreira, 60, brings life with the cross of Christ. A strong sentimental bond comes from the cradle. And he will never die.

“I was between 9 and 22 years old as a player … Now I have been tending the lawn for 20 years, but before I was an equipment technician, I did a little bit of everything. I spent two years in high school coached by Hooka, Jimmy Hagan and Perez Bandeira. Great times … I grew up in Ajuda and have lived here all my life, ”says one of the club’s most beloved employees.

Luis Ferreira has met hundreds of players and coaches. Today he will meet again with one of them, Ruben Amorim. “Yes, that’s true. I worked with him and he was a very nice person. Friendly and very polite. But let him get angry! It will be difficult, but I’ve seen a lot of things in football. I saw Belenenses playing in Munich, and after 10 minutes two balls hit the iron, and Oliver Khan made amazing saves. And two years ago Sporting lost to Alverka, right? I wish Ruben good luck, but he must lose to Belenenses … “

Maestro de Braga is the first Portuguese in the National Symphony Orchestra of Cuba.

Maestro Filipe Cunha, Artistic Director of the Philharmonic Orchestra of Braga, has been invited to conduct the Cuban National Symphony Orchestra, as announced today.

According to a statement sent by O MINHO, “he will be the first Portuguese conductor to conduct this orchestra in its entire history.”

In addition to this orchestra, the maestro will also work with the Lyceo Mozarteum de la Habana Symphony Orchestra.

The concerts will take place on 4 and 12 March 2023 at the National Theater of Cuba in Havana.

In the words of the maestro, quoted in the statement, “these will be very beautiful concerts with difficult but very complex pieces” and therefore he feels “very motivated”.

From the very beginning, Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2 will be performed by an Italian pianist (Luigi Borzillo), whom the maestro wants to bring to Portugal later this year. In the same concert, Mendelshon’s First Symphony will be performed.

Then, at the second concert, in the company of the Mexican clarinetist Angel Zedillo, he will perform the Louis Sfora Concerto No. 2. In this concert, the maestro also conducts Tchaikovsky’s Fifth Symphony.

“This is an international recognition of my work. An invitation that I accept with humility and great responsibility. I was surprised to learn that I would be the first Portuguese member of the Cuban National Symphony Orchestra. This is a very great honor,” the maestro said in a statement.

“I take with me the name of the city of Braga and Portugal with all the responsibility that goes with it, and I hope to do a good job there, leaving a good image and putting on great concerts. These will be very special concerts because, in addition to performing pieces that I love, especially Rachmaninov and Tchaikovsky, I will be directing two wonderful soloists who are also my friends. It will be very beautiful,” concludes Filipe Cunha.
