The Department of Education’s (MEC) Science-Based Literacy (ABC) online course has opened 50,000 new opportunities for literacy professionals and undergraduate students. New vacancies are already open and registration begins this Monday 16th in the MEC virtual environment (Avamec).

Claudia Cueda de Toledo, President of the Coordinating Council for Excellence in Higher Education Workforce (CAPES), MEC affiliated agency, stresses that this training is “a commitment by the Brazilian government to our current and future teachers.” The manager explains that this course is designed to ensure that students are successful in reading and writing from the very beginning of their childhood learning: “We will definitely have Brazilians who are better trained to exercise citizenship.”

For Carlos Nadalim, Literacy Secretary at MEC and General Coordinator of the ABC Course, the number of people enrolled in “this solid learning” demonstrates “how our literacy professionals are striving to improve their knowledge and offer better education to Brazilian children.”

More than 200 thousand subscribers the ABC course has already delivered 14 theoretical chapters ABC leadership and four modules ABC Guide in Practice: Building a foundation for reading. Those wishing to join the training will now have access to all the content already available.

The ABC course, with over 5.18 million visits, is the second most attended training course in Avamec… This course is part of the Time to Learn program and is the result of a partnership between CAPES, the Ministry of Literacy of the Ministry of Education (Sealf) and Portuguese institutions: the University of Porto, Polytechnic Institute of Porto and the Portuguese Open University.
