Sony unveils $ 1,799 compact full-frame mirrorless camera A7C

Sony has announced the A7C, a new camera that is currently the smallest model in the Alpha full-frame mirrorless camera lineup. A7C looks more like one from Sony APS-C models such as the A6400 than the A7, in a more compact body with an electronic viewfinder in the upper left corner of the rear of the camera in a rangefinder style.

The A7C measures 124.0 x 71.1 x 59.7mm and weighs 509g. It has a 24.2MP full-frame sensor with built-in image stabilization and a standard ISO range of up to 51,200. It can shoot at up to 10 frames per second with auto exposure and is capable of shooting 4K / 30fps or 1080p / 120fps videos at up to 100Mbps. The body has USB-C, Wi-Fi and a 3-inch LCD display with an adjustable angle of 921,000 points.

Sony has developed a new complete lens designed to work with the A7C; when used together, the company describes this combination as “the world’s smallest and lightest full-frame camera.” (Sigma can cause problems with this wording.) This is a 28-60mm f4-5.6 zoom, which is only 45mm when folded.

The A7C is priced at $ 1,799, which is $ 200 less than the model. A7 III 2018, the camera he is technically closest to. But the A7 III is a couple of years old and is widely available at discounted prices and may be the best option for those who prefer viewfinder size or overall ergonomics.

In terms of competition, the A7C goes straight against Panasonic’s new Lumix S5 for $ 1999, another compact 24MP full-frame camera. But there are also more affordable options – Nikon Z5 costs $ 1,399.95 and comes with a similar foldable zoom lens for $ 1,699.95, which is less than the Sony body alone. Canon EOS RP even cheaper these days, albeit a little more.

However, Sony offers the best line of full-frame mirrorless lenses on the market, ahead of the rest by several years. If you want a small camera body to take advantage of this, the A7C can be a great option. It goes on sale next month for $ 1,799, or $ 2,099 with the new zoom lens included.
