Texas Weather: Potentially deadly weather patterns are being prepared

Earlier in the week, parts of Texas noted signs of oppressive warmth. Several cities including San Antonio, Lufkin and Victoria set records for hot low temperatures, with some failing to drop below 80 degrees even in overnight hours.

When a little help is found overnight, the conditions allow dangerous hot temperatures the next day.

The seriousness of excessive heat cannot be overstated. Although hurricanes and tornadoes are the most well-known in the world of weather, many are surprised to learn that heat is the main weather killer.

The fact heat kills nearly twice as many Americans every year than tornadoes and nearly three times more Americans than hurricanes.

The hot advisor applies to more than 22 million Americans from Missouri to Texas, including in Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Louisiana.

“Highs will push well into the 90s and above the 100s in some areas,” said CNN meteorologist Dave Hennen.

Air flowing from the Gulf of Mexico will make, Dallas, Texas, reach a heat index – what it feels like when humidity is taken into account – from 110 degrees on Wednesday and Thursday afternoons.

With this temperature, the National Weather Service suggests that heat forces might occur within minutes of physical activity outdoors – or just because of prolonged exposure to the elements.

Fortunately, the human body has evolved to beautifully combat excess heat. Sweating plays an important role in cooling your body temperature to a safe level.

In fact, when you sweat, the evaporation process that cools your skin can reach 22% of the heat released from your body, according to National Center for Biotechnology Information.

However, this process is significantly inhibited when humidity is so high that sweat fails to evaporate effectively.

That will be the case in cities like Dallas, New Orleans, Oklahoma City and Tulsa in Oklahoma, Little Rock, Arkansas, and Wichita, Kansas, over the next few days.

Some valuable ways to combat pressing heat are through proper clothing, food choices, hydration and skin protection.

Try to drink about half of your body weight in fluid ounces. So, 150 pounds of people should drink about 75 fluid ounces per day.

Avoid alcohol for the same reason as you should avoid high protein foods during heat waves, they reduce your body’s natural ability to cool down.

If you think you will be in the element for more than a few moments, protecting your skin with sunscreen will provide more than just the obvious benefits of avoiding sunburn.

Sunlight also significantly reduces your body’s ability to cool itself efficiently.

Choose loose clothing to improve breathing. Use lighter colored clothing because it will reflect and not absorb solar energy, which means heat.
