Trump on Geoffrey Berman’s shooting: ‘I’m not involved’

Barr says Trump has fired US attorney Berman

“Unfortunately, with your statement last night, you chose public viewing over public service,” Barr said in his letter to Berman. “Since you have stated that you have no intention of resigning, I have asked the President to transfer you today, and he has done so.”

But Trump said on Saturday that he was not involved with the decision.

“Well, it all depends on the attorney general. Attorney General Barr is working on that,” Trump said at South Lawn before his departure for the rally in Tulsa, Oklahoma. “That’s the department, not mine. But we have a capable attorney general so it’s really up to him. I’m not involved.”

An extraordinary increase occurred after Barr tried to remove Berman on Friday, but Berman opposed Barr by refusing to back down. In an extraordinary statement sent about an hour after Barr said Berman would leave the office, Berman said he had found out about his departure from the press release.

“I have not resigned, and do not have the intention to resign, my position, where I was appointed by the United States District Court Judge for the Southern District of New York. I will resign when the nominee is appointed by the Senate,” Berman said.

Barr’s letter on Saturday noted that “through legal operations,” Berman’s current representative, Audrey Strauss, will be the US Attorney’s Office, “and I anticipate that he will serve in that capacity until a permanent successor is in place.” On Friday night, Barr said he intended to run for Berman’s permanent successor, Jay Clayton, chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission, who had never been a prosecutor.

Barr’s efforts to oust one of the country’s most powerful prosecutors began to have trouble on Saturday, with Republicans hinting at a bit of lust to fight to confirm a new US lawyer amid Democratic accusations that the move was an attempt to protect Trump’s federal colleagues. investigation.

Republicans on Capitol Hill were blinded by Friday night’s efforts by Barr to search for the overthrow of Berman and show little willingness to confirm a new candidate without Democratic support – which means there is a real possibility that Jay Clayton’s nomination to replace him could languish and Berman can stay in posts without limits.

The fast-moving developments appear to have shocked Senate Chief Justice Lindsey Graham, a close ally of Trump and Barr, who said Saturday he was not informed of an attempt to sack Berman.

And in an important announcement on Saturday, Graham announced that he would respect the tradition of letting the state senator sign the successor to Berman’s post, which means that Democrats basically have a veto over the replacement to the position considered the job of the most powerful US lawyer in the country.

Berman, who seems unaffected by the controversy, appeared to work on Saturday morning, told reporters: “I am only here to do my job.”

This story has been updated with additional developments Saturday.

Maestro de Braga is the first Portuguese in the National Symphony Orchestra of Cuba.

Maestro de Braga is the first Portuguese in the National Symphony Orchestra of Cuba.

Maestro Filipe Cunha, Artistic Director of the Philharmonic Orchestra of Braga, has been invited to conduct the Cuban National Symphony Orchestra, as announced today.

According to a statement sent by O MINHO, “he will be the first Portuguese conductor to conduct this orchestra in its entire history.”

In addition to this orchestra, the maestro will also work with the Lyceo Mozarteum de la Habana Symphony Orchestra.

The concerts will take place on 4 and 12 March 2023 at the National Theater of Cuba in Havana.

In the words of the maestro, quoted in the statement, “these will be very beautiful concerts with difficult but very complex pieces” and therefore he feels “very motivated”.

From the very beginning, Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2 will be performed by an Italian pianist (Luigi Borzillo), whom the maestro wants to bring to Portugal later this year. In the same concert, Mendelshon’s First Symphony will be performed.

Then, at the second concert, in the company of the Mexican clarinetist Angel Zedillo, he will perform the Louis Sfora Concerto No. 2. In this concert, the maestro also conducts Tchaikovsky’s Fifth Symphony.

“This is an international recognition of my work. An invitation that I accept with humility and great responsibility. I was surprised to learn that I would be the first Portuguese member of the Cuban National Symphony Orchestra. This is a very great honor,” the maestro said in a statement.

“I take with me the name of the city of Braga and Portugal with all the responsibility that goes with it, and I hope to do a good job there, leaving a good image and putting on great concerts. These will be very special concerts because, in addition to performing pieces that I love, especially Rachmaninov and Tchaikovsky, I will be directing two wonderful soloists who are also my friends. It will be very beautiful,” concludes Filipe Cunha.
