The Hungarian League allows soccer fans to enter the stadium

The country became the first in Europe to receive spectators returning to the stands, but with the number of people dramatically decreasing and measures of social distance imposed.

Under the regulations imposed by the Hungarian national soccer federation (MLSZ), fans must be spread so that no more than one seat in four is occupied and each second row is completely empty.

“Clubs that organize matches must ensure that social distance is maintained in the stands to guarantee conditions for epidemiological control,” MLSZ said in a statement.

The first match with fans took place on Friday, hosted by bottom team Kaposvar against fellow ZTE fighters, with social media posts from MLSZ describing new steps in place at a stadium which usually holds 7,000 spectators.

Supporters of the hosts in attendance may hope they don’t care, with Kaposvar slumping to a 6-0 defeat to stay rooted to the bottom of the standings.

In Saturday’s action, Mezokovesd, who was in third place, visited DVTK, slipping to a 1-0 defeat, in a match that was rarely attended even though pockets of fans seemed to gather to create more atmosphere and entertain their team.

Mezokovesd supporters seem to ignore the rules of social distance when they support their team during the 1-0 defeat.
DVTK supporters have a little more to cheer in rarely attended matches as a 1-0 home win lifts their team to fourth place.

A bigger test of whether fans will comply with new restrictions will come Sunday with the visit of league leader Ferencvaros to Puskas FC, the club of Felcsut, which is the hometown of the Hungarian Prime Minister who supports football, Viktor Orban.

Thirty-time Hungarian champions Ferencvaros regularly attract large numbers of people to matches in a league where on average only 3,000 per match.

Drive-in soccer fans

Meanwhile, fans in the Czech Republic, where the league has returned behind closed doors, have been offered a new way to gather to show support for their team and watch the match live.

When Sparta Prague hosted Viktoria Plzen in second place Wednesday, supporters could watch the match on the big screen from inside their cars in drive-in theaters in Plzen and Prague.

Fans cheered as they watched the Czech first division football match between FC Viktoria Plzen and AC Sparta Prague at a drive-in cinema in Plzen, Czech Republic.

The experiment proved to be a success, but vocal supporters left their cars at key moments with Plzen fans ending happier when their team ensured a 2-1 away win.

Maestro de Braga is the first Portuguese in the National Symphony Orchestra of Cuba.

Maestro de Braga is the first Portuguese in the National Symphony Orchestra of Cuba.

Maestro Filipe Cunha, Artistic Director of the Philharmonic Orchestra of Braga, has been invited to conduct the Cuban National Symphony Orchestra, as announced today.

According to a statement sent by O MINHO, “he will be the first Portuguese conductor to conduct this orchestra in its entire history.”

In addition to this orchestra, the maestro will also work with the Lyceo Mozarteum de la Habana Symphony Orchestra.

The concerts will take place on 4 and 12 March 2023 at the National Theater of Cuba in Havana.

In the words of the maestro, quoted in the statement, “these will be very beautiful concerts with difficult but very complex pieces” and therefore he feels “very motivated”.

From the very beginning, Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2 will be performed by an Italian pianist (Luigi Borzillo), whom the maestro wants to bring to Portugal later this year. In the same concert, Mendelshon’s First Symphony will be performed.

Then, at the second concert, in the company of the Mexican clarinetist Angel Zedillo, he will perform the Louis Sfora Concerto No. 2. In this concert, the maestro also conducts Tchaikovsky’s Fifth Symphony.

“This is an international recognition of my work. An invitation that I accept with humility and great responsibility. I was surprised to learn that I would be the first Portuguese member of the Cuban National Symphony Orchestra. This is a very great honor,” the maestro said in a statement.

“I take with me the name of the city of Braga and Portugal with all the responsibility that goes with it, and I hope to do a good job there, leaving a good image and putting on great concerts. These will be very special concerts because, in addition to performing pieces that I love, especially Rachmaninov and Tchaikovsky, I will be directing two wonderful soloists who are also my friends. It will be very beautiful,” concludes Filipe Cunha.
