According to data from the Spanish Ministry of Health, 27,563 have now died due to Covid-19 in the country, an increase of 104 in the past 24 hours. This is the lowest daily increase since March 17.

“Although it hurts that people continue to die from the corona virus, the numbers are beneficial,” Dr. Fernando Simon, Spain’s Director of Emergency Health, said about the number of new deaths at the coronavirus daily briefing.

The number of coronavirus cases rose to 230,698, an increase of 539 in the last 24 hours. This shows a 0.2% increase the previous day, continuing the slowing trend seen in the past few weeks.

“Until now, we have not detected an active outbreak in any of the regions,” Simon said of the infection, while warning that the Spaniards must remain vigilant.

Simon made the statement when the Spanish Ministry of Health announced its testing capacity had increased by 18% in the last seven days, after carrying out nearly 2 million tests since the outbreak began. In addition, more than 1 million antibodies are fast test has also been done.

His health ministry also reported a total of 50,723 health workers had been infected with the virus since the start of the outbreak in the country, 268 more cases since Friday.

While the Spanish government has not provided an official number of deaths among health workers, the General Board of the Official Medical College, the Spanish professional doctor’s body (CGCOM), reported 48 doctors had died as Covid-19 victims in the country.

Meanwhile, the Spanish government will ask the country’s parliament for a month’s extension to a state of emergency in the country, Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez announced.

“The Spanish government will ask Parliament for a new extension to the state of emergency, which will have different characteristics, with respect to the previous one, because the situation in Spain has changed,” Sanchez said. “To begin with, this aims to be the last [extension to the] emergencies and to cover, until the end of the escalation, and because of that we will ask parliament that instead of 15 days, that’s about a month. “

The prime minister said with this, that the right of free circulation would remain “limited” for a few more weeks and that certain areas could get out of an emergency earlier than others.

Sanchez also said that easing of the gradual restrictions would take place in half the country until the start of the summer, while the rest of the countries would finish one or two weeks afterwards, if there were no increase in the number of cases.

Maestro de Braga is the first Portuguese in the National Symphony Orchestra of Cuba.

Maestro Filipe Cunha, Artistic Director of the Philharmonic Orchestra of Braga, has been invited to conduct the Cuban National Symphony Orchestra, as announced today.

According to a statement sent by O MINHO, “he will be the first Portuguese conductor to conduct this orchestra in its entire history.”

In addition to this orchestra, the maestro will also work with the Lyceo Mozarteum de la Habana Symphony Orchestra.

The concerts will take place on 4 and 12 March 2023 at the National Theater of Cuba in Havana.

In the words of the maestro, quoted in the statement, “these will be very beautiful concerts with difficult but very complex pieces” and therefore he feels “very motivated”.

From the very beginning, Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2 will be performed by an Italian pianist (Luigi Borzillo), whom the maestro wants to bring to Portugal later this year. In the same concert, Mendelshon’s First Symphony will be performed.

Then, at the second concert, in the company of the Mexican clarinetist Angel Zedillo, he will perform the Louis Sfora Concerto No. 2. In this concert, the maestro also conducts Tchaikovsky’s Fifth Symphony.

“This is an international recognition of my work. An invitation that I accept with humility and great responsibility. I was surprised to learn that I would be the first Portuguese member of the Cuban National Symphony Orchestra. This is a very great honor,” the maestro said in a statement.

“I take with me the name of the city of Braga and Portugal with all the responsibility that goes with it, and I hope to do a good job there, leaving a good image and putting on great concerts. These will be very special concerts because, in addition to performing pieces that I love, especially Rachmaninov and Tchaikovsky, I will be directing two wonderful soloists who are also my friends. It will be very beautiful,” concludes Filipe Cunha.
