“It was a critical moment,” António Pinto, president of the Pedrógão de São Pedro board of directors, described in statements to Cova da Beira radio

Edgar Márquez, a 20-year-old defender, fell inanimately on the Estreito pitch in Oleiros this Sunday afternoon when he was far from grappling with the ball. “When we realized that, the player was lying on the field,” added the Penamacor team manager.

The second half was in the middle, and “the game was stopped for about half an hour” so that Edgar received help first from the team’s masseuse, then from the fire department and the ambulance and resuscitation team (VMER). He was then taken to the Amato Lusitano Hospital in Castelo Branco. Antonio Pinto added that “when he left Estreito the player had already stabilized”.

The match between Agias do Moradal from Oleiros and Pedrogão de San Pedro from Penamacor in the 14th round of the championship of the Castelo Branco district ended with a victory for the home team with a score of 3: 1.
