In an emotional speech delivered just hours after the Uwald, Texas school shooting, Golden State Warriors coach Steve Kerr lamented the event at a press conference and lashed out at those in power.

A shooting at a Texas elementary school in the United States on Tuesday that left 21 people dead is sparking outrage. Steve Kerr, coach of the Golden State Warriors, has publicly criticized congressional leaders for their inaction on gun control legislation. In 2022, there were at least 212 armed attacks in the United States.

At a press conference prior to the NBA game, the coach refused to talk about basketball and took over the airtime, attacking North American politicians. “Over the past ten days, we have had black elderly murdered in a supermarket in Buffalo, Asians murdered in a church in Southern California, and now we have children murdered in a school. When are we going to do something?” with a look of rebellion.

“I am tired of this. I’m tired of coming here and expressing condolences to devastated families. I’m tired of the minutes of silence. Enough!”

Steve Kerr, 56, lost his father in 1984, shot to death in Beirut, Lebanon. So the US gun control flag is something I’ve been advocating for years.

“Do you understand that 90% of Americans, regardless of political party, want everyone’s checks before they buy guns? 90%! We are held hostage by 50 senators in Washington who refuse to even allow gun control laws to be passed, no matter what the American people want. They don’t vote because they want to keep power. It’s pathetic!” Kerr said at the conference.

In his speech, the coach of the Golden State Warriors also asked the population not to stop fighting for the safety of the country. “I want every person here, everyone who listens to this, to think about their child or grandchild, mother or father, sister or brother. How would you feel if this happened to you today?

The shooting took place about 560 kilometers from Dallas, where the Warriors met the Mavericks, on Tuesday night, just hours after the shooting.

Dallas Mavericks head coach Jason Kidd also read a brief statement about the shooting during the pre-game press conference.

The NBA issued a statement saying it was “devastated by the terrible shooting” but did not postpone the game. Kidd and Kerr expressed some discomfort playing just hours after the mass shooting.
